Buy reduced price cream to make cheap as chips butter

  • Prep: 10 mins

Ingredients

1 pot double or whipping cream

A little salt - optional

Directions

1Put the cream into a bowl

2Whisk it until you get peaks

3Whisk some more

4When the cream has separated into a liquid and a solid -STOP

5Put the solid into a muslin cloth or clean tea towel and squeeze out the remaining liquid

6Run the butter (solid) under COLD water

7Squeeze out excess water

8Season with salt if using

9Shape and wrap in greaseproof

10The liquid you have left in the bowl is buttermilk which is great to use in baking

You can just pour the cream into a clean jar . Screw on the lid and shake , shake , shake until it separates , then rinse as above . Children will love making it this way

Do you know how long the butter will last in the fridge? Presumably longer than the date on the cream it was made from?
