Madeira Cake

 4oz butter
 4 oz caster sugar
 2 tblspns golden syrup
 2 eggs
 6oz self raising flour
 1 tspn baking powder
 1 tspn vanilla extract

Heat oven to 180C

Grease and line a1lb loaf tin

Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy

Add in the golden syrup and eggs ( 1 at a time ) beating after adding each egg

Add the vanilla

Now add the sieved flour and baking powder

Mix well, pour into prepared tin

Bake for 30 minutes until risen and golden brown

Cool in tin for 5 minutes before turning onto a cooling rack
