Meatballs are a staple dish in most households, especially if you have children. Yes,you can do the classic marinara or bbq sauce with them but I like to change it up a bit and decided on this lovely sweet & spicy sauce instead. I'm sure your family will love it. Prep :-
Slice the Onion
Slice the Pepper (I used a mix of red,green & yellow)
Slice the Mushrooms
Chop the Garlic
Shred the Spinach
Add the oil to a frying pan on a medium heat.
Add the meatballs.
Fry till seared on all sides (3-4mns) but not cooked through.
Switch the Slow cooker on to Low. Add the onion and pepper.
Add the Meatballs
Add the mushrooms
Make the Sauce by adding all the ingredients to a bowl and mixing till blended
Pour the sauce over the meatballs. Season with S&P.Stir through.
Place the lid on and cook on Low for 3-4hrs or High for 2-3
10mns before serving add the Spinach and stir through.
Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed.
Serve hot with rice,a sprinkle of sesame seeds and mini poppadoms.
Easy swaps:-
Beef for Pork meatballs
Ketchup for Passata
Brown sugar for white
Spinach for Parsley
Slow Cooker for Stove top by cooking in the pot for 40mns
Tip:-
if you want a thinner sauce add some stock.
If you want a thicker sauce add a tbsp of cornflour or leave the lid off for 1 hr.
