00Slow Cooker Chocolate Mars Bar cakeA bit of nostalgia with this recipe, as my Mum used to make this for us kids way back when we were just a little younger. Its so easy and yet so yummy and I'm sure this will soon become a family favourite for you and your children too, as it is in our house. There's chocolate, mallow, caramel and then a little more chocolate, so a little goes a long way. This would be a good recipe for the children to help with as it's a no bake- they would just have to be careful with the hot SC. Its great for lunch boxes, picnics or on its own with a cuppa, and even makes a great gift for Christmas. The white chocolate piping is totally optional - my piping bag burst so it went a bit awry but I styled it out and said it was to make it rustic looking lol -think I got away with that as it adds to the charm of being homemade. You can totally swap the branded ingredients for supermarket own brands and slash the costs. The step by step picture guide let's you follow the recipe easily and allows you to tailor it to suit you and your families tastes. 00Slow Cooker Coconut Rice PuddingCoconut Rice Pudding is a different take on your favourite pud. Its no less creamy or yummy than your regular rice pudding but using the store cupboard staple of long grained white rice instead of pudding rice it slashed the costs. This is sure to become a family favourite. If you can't get Coconut milk you can use a tin of coconut cream and dilute it with regular milk or just use dessicated coconut and cream. If you've never cooked rice in your slow cooker before then I urge you to try it.The step by step photo's will guide you through the recipe and once it's in your SC apart from an occasional stir, it takes care of itself. This is so easy to do and so is a great one for the children to try their hands at as it's no bake, They may just need a bit of help with the melted butter. 00Yoghurt & Berry Frozen BitesBitesize pieces of frozen yoghurt and fruit are sweet and fresh and great on a hot summer day. A bit of nostalgia here as my Mum did these as treat for after lunch when we were children, as well as making other homemade icelollies with diluting juice etc. it's recently became trendy with dieters and fitness experts as it's so easy and has few ingredients. No cooking involved so this makes them a great one for the kids to do. The fun part is eating them before they melt all over your fingers but you could be really smart and put a lolly stick through them and make your own icelollies. The toppings can be anything you choose and you can layer them up too. I used frozen berries and chocolate buttons but its totally upto you. Its also a great way of using up yoghurt you find in the reduced section of the supermarket. The step by step guide is easy to follow so why not give this a try and let us know how you get on. This is so easy to do and so is a great one for the children to try their hands at as it's no bake, They may just need a bit of help with the melted butter. 00Lemon Cheesecake-no bakeA yummy combination of ginger biscuits and lemon flavours make this a creamy no bake dessert that is so easy to do. Your only problem will be leaving it to set in the fridge without delving into it. Shop bought cheesecake is lovely but can it be bland. With this you can make it for your tastes, so as I love lemon, I added extra because, well...it's for me! I also used the lighter mascarpone to see what difference it made to the recipe and apart from a softer set there was no difference in taste. As mentioned this is a softer whipped cheesecake but that's part of its charm I think, as is the rough edges which you can smooth over if you wish.. I did all of this by hand-no processor or mixer as I wanted to see how truly easy it was. If you have a mixer etc that's fine but I realise not everyone does. My cake tin was being used elsewhere so I had to improvise with another and use some baking paper to enable it come out easily-hence the rough edges. You can use this recipe and the step by step instructions as a guide and tailor it to suit you and your families tastes. Why not give it a try and let us know how you get on.
00Halogen baked Rhubarb & Apple CrumbleRhubarb(maincrop) is really only available in the shops for about 3 months of the year so take advantage of it and make this family friendly recipe. There's so many flavours sensations going on when you taste this as the fruit is sweet yet tart and the crumble is chewy yet crumbly. Its reminiscent of summer days and can be served topped with ice cream, custard, fresh cream or yoghurt. Why not make your own and let us know how it differs to shop bought which I find can be bland and overly sweet. My memories of rhubarb is dipping it in a bowl of sugar whilst sitting on the stairs with my best friend when I was a child.
