Use suet or butter for these

  • Prep: 5 mins
  • Cook: 1 hr 5 mins
  • Yields: 4 or 8 dumplings

4oz SR flour

2oz suet or COLD grated butter

Pinch salt

Tspn baking powder (totally optional but does help make a light fluffy dumpling)

COLD water to bind

Tspn mixed herbs ( optional )

1Put the flour , baking powder , suet ( or butter ) and salt ( and herbs. If using into a bowl

2Stir to mix

3Gradually add in enough cold water to bring the mixture together - use the end of a wooden spoon to mix

4Roll in 4 large or 8 small balls

5These can now be baked on a baking tray at 180c for 15-20 minutes

7Put on top of a stew for

8last 30 minutes of oven or stove top cooking

9For 45-60 minutes of slow cooker cooking

10For 5-10 minutes of pressure cooking

For me no stew is complete without a fluffy dumpling

Would this work with gluten free flour if I grated butter?
