Add whatever dried fruits or nuts to this that you like

 175g butter
 175g golden syrup
 175g sugar
 350g oats
 A couple of handfuls of dried fruit

Heat oven to 150c

Grease and line a 20cm square tin

Melt the butter , sugar and syrup gently on the hob

When you can no l feel or hear the sugar when you stir , remove from the hob.

Stir through the oats and fruit .

Make sure it's well mixed it will stiffen Pour into the prepared tin

Flatten the top

Cook for about 40-45 minutes

Cool it in the tin for 20 minutes

Turn out and cut into squares

  1. I make a version of this regularly to take to work for Full Fat Fridays and they last – ooh – 2 minutes. For a Christmas twist when it gets to that time of year, add a good couple of table spoons of mincemeat instead of the dried fruit.
