Onion Strings

  • Yields: 4 servings


2 large onion very thinly sliced - I use a mandolin

1-2 cups of milk or butter milk

1-2 cups Plain flour

Pinch salt

0.5 tspn cayenne pepper

Black pepper

Oil to fry


1Put the sliced onions in a baking dish

2Cover with milk/buttermilk and leave for a good hour

3Combine flour , salt , and peppers and put on a shallow dish

4Heat oil to 180c

5Grab a handful of onions, throw into the flour mix

6shake off excess

7PLUNGE into hot oil.

8Fry for a few minutes and remove as soon as golden brown.

9Drain on kitchen paper serve

Prep more as you’ll nibble half before serving

I made onion rings for the first time yesterday turned out great. Double dipped them in milk, then flour did some plain flour then added one teaspoon salt and chilli seasoning to the flour to make spicy rings. It was soon good!
