Yields4 Servings
 4oz butter or cooking spread
 4oz black treacle
 4oz golden syrup
 4oz sugar
 8oz oats
 8oz plain flour
 1 tblspn bicarbonate of soda
 2 tspns cinnamon
 A good 4 tspns ground ginger
 1 beaten egg
 1/4 pt of milk
1

Heat oven to 175C

Grease and lone a square cake tin or shallow roasting pan

On a low heat gently melt the butter

Add in the black treacle, syrup and sugar and heat very gently until sugar start to melt

Meanwhile combine all the dry ingredients in a large bowl

Don't let the syrup mix get too hot !

When the sugar is dissolved pour the mix into to dry ingredients , add the beaten egg and mix well

Gradually add in enough milk to create a batter

Pour into the prepared tin and put on the bottom shelf of the oven for 1hour- 1hr 15 minutes

Remove from oven and cool in tin for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool
