Toad in the Hole

A cheap and cheerful dinner

  • Prep: 30 mins
  • Cook: 50 mins


2-3 sausages per person

4oz Plain Flour

2 eggs

Salt and pepper

1pint milk or milk/water mix


Optional - red onion wedges , baby tomatoes


1First make your batteras early as possible

2Put the flour and salt and pepper in a large bowl - mix

3Make a well add in the eggs - whisk

4Gradually add in the milk whisking all the time

5Put in the fridge for as long as possible

6Heat oven to 200c

7Put the sausages in a baking tin/dish

8Cook for 10 minutes until they're browning

9Add some oil

10When the oil is smoking add the onion and tomatoes if using

11Pour in the batter - it should sizzle and start to cook at the edges

12Put the pan into the oven on the top shelf

13Bake for 25-30 until golden and risen

14Serve with onion gravy

For a real treat wrap the sausages in bacon
