As a Scot I didn't realise that you don't really get this sort of steak pie in England. This is a traditional dish that we eat all through the year but definitely at New Year!
heat oil in a pan
mix the flour and oxo cubes together and then coat the beef in the mix
fry off the seasoned beef (and sausages if using) until browned
Add enough water to just cover the meat and bring to the boil
Simmer on the lowest heat for at least 1 hour
Heat the oven to GM 5 or 180c
Add the filling to a pie dish
Roll out the pastry and cover the pie
pinch around the edges and cut a couple of slits in the centre
Egg wash the top and cook in the centre of the oven until risen and golden brown (around 25 - 30 minutes)

Have tried this recipe out of your book we love it. Each time I make it I make it ias small pies one each and 2 for the freezer
