KFC Fakeaway

Perfect fakeaway KFC chicken. And a huge thanks to 13yr old Meg for the stunning pic!

 2 tbsp paprika
 4 tsp onion powder
 2 tsp chilli powder
 2 tsp black pepper
 1 tsp celery salt
 1 tsp dried sage
 1 tsp garlic powder
 1 tsp dried oregano
 1 tsp all spice
 1 tbsp dried basil
 2 tbsp course salt
 330 g plain flour
 2 tbsp sugar
 1 egg, beaten
 900 g chicken thighs, bone in and skin on
 cooking oil for frying

Combine all the spices together in a bowl

add the flour and sugar and mix well

dip your chicken pieces in the beaten egg and then into the flour / spice mix, set aside and then continue until its all been coated

Heat enough oil in a pan to shallow fry the chicken and fry in batches for 15 to 20 minutes turning frequently

drain on kitchen paper before serving

  1. Ooo, this KFC fakeaway sounds fab! Has anyone tried it in an air fryer. We are thinking of getting one, but they take up so much space and I don’t know if we have room to store. If someone could advise if it were any good for things like his, I think I would have to make room for one. Will an air fryer make it crispy?

    1. I bought a ninja dual drawer air fryer, together with electric steamer/ frying pan I haven’t used my cooker since Christmas! Definitely worth finding space for one as you can do so much more than ‘frying’ in them. Also fuel saver – mine is like two mini ovens- use one or both. Cook quicker and no pre heating

  2. That looks really yummy! I’m also craving KFC. Previously I’d made cornflake chicken as my chicken fakeaway, found because it was baked it wasn’t as naughty as frying the chicken
