Braised Beef and Onions

serve with creamy mash and leafy vegetables


700g braising steak

Plain flour for dusting

2tbspn sunflower oil

3 medium onions very finely sliced

2 tspn caster sugar

5 garlic cloves sliced

700 ml beef stock ( homemade or use 2 sock cubes)

3 tblspn Worcestershire sauce

4 large mushrooms sliced thickly

Handful of fresh chopped parsley


1Heat the oil gently

2Add the sliced onions and fry for 5 minutes

3Add in the sugar and cook for a further 5-10 minutes you want lovely caramelised onions

4Add the garlic for the final five minutes

5Pour in the stock and Worcestershire sauce

6Dust the beef with a little flour and seal in another pan

7Add the beef and mushrooms to the onions and stock , seasons n well with black pepper

8Cover and cook for about 2 hrs

9Sprinkle some parsley over before serving
