Wholemeal Scones

You can make these plain , fruit or cheese


200g wholemeal SR flour

50g butter or margerine

15g sugar

150g dried fruit

145ml milk


1Heat oven to 230C

2Lightly grease a baking sheet

3Put th flour in a mixing bowl

4Add in the butter and rub together so it's like breadcrumbs

5Mix in the sugar and fruit

6Gradually stir in the milk to bring the mix together to form a firm dough . You may not need all the milk or you may need a little more

7Place the mixture on a lightly floured surface

8Roll out to 2cm thick

9Cut out 8 rounds and place them on the baking sheet

10Put in the oven and bake for 10-15 minutes until firm and golden

11Cool on a wire tray

12If making cheese scones omit the sugar and add 150g grated cheese and a tspn of mustard powder. Sprinkle a little cheese on top before baking
